Recently a friend of mine was baptized and I was so excited for her day! I was on a tight budged and really wanted to get her a special and sentimental gift…I mean she was making a big commitment! Since money was tight I wasn’t sure what to do. I decided to embroider her name and date of baptism into a white pillowcase! I thought it would be perfect and inexpensive! The pillowcase was around 8 Dollars on amazon and came in a pack of two. When I first opened them I was surprised at how stiff they felt but I promise that it will go away after you wash and dry it.
This gift is perfect for many more occasions than just a baptism! What I love about embroidery is you are putting the words and design YOU want!
Now I am not, by any means a professional and embroidery. To be honest I just picked it up a few weeks ago so this is great for a beginner.
What you’ll need is:
- 1 white pillow case
- Embroidery floss (I used very thin and small crochet yarn because the pillow case was thick but embroidery floss will work just fine too)
- Embroidery needle
- A small hoop
- Pencil or wash away maker
It’s very simple to begin. I decided where I wanted to put her name and date of baptism. Once I decided I wrote it in Pencil very lightly.
Then I put the hoop on tight and snug and carefully and cleanly I embroider her name and the date. I looked on Google for font types and just copied them onto the pillow case.
When I was finished I had some pesky pencil marks that were faint but I could see them! So I took a toothbrush and some laundry soap and carefully scrubbed any pencil that was showing. When I finished I threw it in the wash on the “Hand washing mode” or “Delicate” and dried it on “Low/Delicate”. That’s it!
